Lal Bahadur Shastri Mahavidyalaya was founded in 1967 by Dharmabad Shikshan Sanstha to bring affordable, quality higher education to the farming and working families of Dharmabad and the wider Nanded district. What began with a handful of teachers and two undergraduate programmes has grown into a NAAC-accredited multi-faculty college offering Arts, Commerce and Science degrees to over a thousand students each year — the vast majority of them first-generation college-goers.
Education is the one gift a family's circumstances can never take away. If we can open even one door for a farmer's child, we will have done our work.
A schoolteacher by profession, Shri. Deshmukh gathered a small group of like-minded educators to establish the Sanstha in a rented building on the outskirts of Dharmabad. He served as President until 1989, overseeing the college's move to its permanent campus and the introduction of its first Science programmes.
We measure our success not by the students who arrive with every advantage, but by how far we help every student travel from where they started.
Dr. Deshmukh holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and has served the institution for over two decades, guiding LBSM through its most significant academic and infrastructural growth — including the constitution of IQAC and the college's second NAAC accreditation cycle. He continues to keep an open-door policy for students and staff alike.
